I just received my copies of the second edition of Participants in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. As usual, McFarland & Company, Publishers, has done a very nice job. The book is sleek, new painting on the cover, and more than 5,000 new Indian names, plus three new maps. Peter Russell, maybe the world's foremost authority on the troops hailing from the U. K., contributed a lot to this book and it now reflects Peter's research as well as data from the U. S. archives.
I hope those of you who buy it enjoy it. I doubt you will regret it.
Best wishes, Fred.

Dang it Fred. You are hard on my book allowance. Is there going to be a Kindle or ebook edition?

Is there going to be a Kindle or ebook edition? Beth, Yes. Some versions take up to eight weeks to put in an electronic file-- so they tell me-- but, yes, there is a Kindle version as well as for other e-books. I think you will like this book and I would be quite interested in your opinion. You are always very well grounded and I respect your thoughts and opinions. Best wishes, Fred.

Dave,
If you ordered it on Amazon, you should be receiving it shortly. Quite frankly, I am delighted with it. All the errors and omissions I spotted in the first edition have been corrected, most of course, being typo-type stuff. I made some changes in personnel data as well, especially where Peter Russell felt it egregiously wrong, but I added Russell's work where the discrepancies were not that great and it was a toss-up between his research and the U. S. Army archives.
The major difference-- besides those changes-- is the addition of appendices H and I. They change the whole book.
I think-- and I hope-- you will enjoy it. To be quite honest, I believe there is more useful data in that book than any you will ever find. Just remember, it is a reference book, not something to be read cover to cover.
Best wishes and my hearty thanks, Fred.

Some people read reference books from cover to cover you know. What good is a reference if you don't know what is in it.

I believe my daughter ordered it from McFarland. Dave, If so, I would almost bet you will have it tomorrow. The book was released on December 30, and I know for a fact they are shipping: the managing editor told me so today. Again, thanks. Best wishes, Fred.

Really Dave, golf, oh that's right you are closer to the Gulf. If I wanted "Participants" for that here, I would have to buy them as well, and more time would be spent at the 19th hole, inside. So, get your book and enjoy the warmth.
Regards, Tom

Tom We have a quaint ole custom here of playing golf while enjoying an an aperitif or so. The quality of my game has stood the test of time and is a thing of beauty. Many have commented on my ability to hit the ball so well and far. On occasion I have pelted drives over 30 yards right down the left side of the rough.
Funny you mention that you have to pay for others to play with you 'cause I do the same thing only we call them bets. I guess I must be very popular since many ask to play with them yet no one wants me on their team. Regards Dave
