Can someone suggest a good source for maps? I am looking for one that hopefully has the markers on it and one that possibly has feature names. It would be great if they are combined. The problem I have is that most of the ones I find in books or on the Internet are too small for me to read. Ebooks will work because images can be enlarged.
Thanks

Beth there are plenty of maps for LBH. The problem is there are not plenty of good ones, and none of them meet your exact requirements.
The 1:24,000 scale USGS map sheet Crow Agency is a good scale for a topographic map. Easy to read even if you only have very basic map reading skill. Problem with it is that it has not been updated since 1967 and it is obsolete with regard to some surrounding countryside although the Custer area is pretty much as is. The Crow Agency sheet requires the corner of the adjoining sheet, to pick up part of the Reno area. You can get it from any good map store in the Austin area, although they will probably have to order it. Takes only a few days though.
The McElfresh Map is a period like reproduction. Very good for some things but again it will not meet all your requirements. If Ian sees this maybe he can post a picture from it to give you an idea. Their Pearl Harbor 7 Dec 41 map is a gem. It stays in my desk drawer at all times. LBH as you might remember is just a sideline for me. My real areas of interest are the first year of the Pacific War and the first year of the war in Korea. McElfresh Maps are easily obtained on line for very reasonable prices and I would recommend you purchase one.
The closest one to fit your needs is the Bonafides Map which is actually a pictomap made up of overhead photos. All kinds of goodies on that one, including markers, artifact finds, and locations of the major players demise (within reason). It has been out of print for at least three years. Mine has more Scotch Magic Tape on it than paper. It is a great resource. Several of the guys here, including Mac have tried to track a copy down all to no avail.
I think you best bet is to track down a USGS and a McElfresh. Won't do the complete job, but will help
Fred's new book will have some superb maps in it produced by his daughter, and based, I think on the USGS.
"Where Custer Fell" will be of great assistance to you. You can't seriously look at this battle without having that to refer to in my view. Still in print and readily available as far as I know.

Thanks for the information. I had suspected that it would take more than one map. I find that I have gotten lost a few times when the rest of you are refering to different locations like Nye Cartwright Ridge and . I have been to LBH a couple times but time fades memories. I also often refer to a youtube documentary that someone created that does a pretty good job of pointing things out but I really need a good map for quick references. I do have "Where Custer Fell." It and Fred's book are my weekend reading. Hubby and the kids will be gone and I am looking forward to 4 days of being able to read all I want without interruptions.

That Youtube by Custer Apollo is pretty fair, and is a help. The maps in WCF are black and whites of the USGS. By Fred's book you are talking "Participants". He has a new one out in I think January. That will be the one with the good maps.
Ask your map location questions on this thread over your four day readathon. Someone will be here to answer hem and point them out to you.

Beth: Send Yantaylor your e-mail via PM and he will send you a selective sample of the McElfresh.
