Good. As you know, I am the world's foremost Fairweather Fan, and will drop the Broncos like a live grendade if they ever lose this year. But they are scary good. Von Miller and Champ Bayley have yet to take the field, and so far not missed much. Incredible depth. Elway and crew have really done a great job with their picks and the coach is incredibly versatile. It feels like a happy group, as such teams go, and incredibly good. When Monte Ball gets beaten into shape, he'll be very good. Normally I'd turn off the set and sulk after that incredible drive followed by his fumble, but Manning comes back and passes and hands off to him after a death gaze. Manning is impressive.

Unfortunately I hear you haven't had much fairweather lately. I was surprised to hear on the news one day last week about a dam bursting and Boulder being flooding. It has been dry here and what little news I saw, didn't mention anything about a large amount of rain in Colorado. I didn't know it was flooding in the Springs until Chuck's post. First the fires and now the floods. When the plague hits, we better update our wills although there may already be multiple plagues occurring right now. Your abode must be high and dry apparently but others aren't fairing so well. I remember when the Big Thompson River dam broke and it was a tragedy. We tend to believe we have Mother Nature under control until she proves us wrong. Don't worry about the Broncos, they will do well until they get their comeuppance and bringdownance from the Chiefs. bc

I saw your picture on the cover of the newsletter and you look to be in the same shape you were when you got out of jump school, and there isn't a grey hair on your head. You are officially out of the Geezers club and can no longer take part in any discussions by us old goats On a serious note. My paper states that there are now 1000 people unaccounted for in Colorado. This is turning out to be a Mother Nature 9/11 Be Well Dan

Unaccounted for only means nobody as yet knows where they are. The majority are assumed to be fine, but people are looking for them to be sure. That will shake out. But there are bound to be many more deaths than we have now. Nobody knows how many corpses of the previously homeless or back to nature types are under these huge mudslides. Boulder the city got walloped, but not compared to some mountain towns. Jamestown got ravaged. Salina is actually gone. Lyons and Longmont are flooded feet deep and have ten foot, twenty foot gouges down main streets. Thousands of homes damaged and hundreds gone. As with all disasters, disease and illness from all the ruptured septic tanks will arrive soon, and the state income will hurt big time because it's going to be tough to correct through the winter before tourist season again. A few nights back we were to entertain a 30 foot wall of water that dropped to 17 feet and then just vanished when it hit Boulder Creek, because it didn't up the water amount much over what was already there. The city sewer systems are clogged with all the run off. But, the city will be fine before the county. The people running things are doing a great job, although the Feds took over the disaster. Helicopters are able to reach towns this AM nobody has heard from with every - all, each and every - road to them destroyed and no way to get in to save them. Every road heading west from Golden to Lyons is gone at the moment. There are truly scary videos on Youtube to see under Boulder flood or Colorado flood. Or here: www.dailycamera.com/digital-first-media/ci_24087007/flooding-colorado-photos-really-bad-destructive?nstrack=sid%3A1362025|met%3A0000300|cat%3A0|order%3A3&%2F%3Fsource=dailyme Rainfall total in SE Boulder over the last week: 21 3/8 inches. Boulder annual average rainfall: 20 1/2 inches. This is the one: www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2013/09/historic-flooding-across-colorado/100591/

Britt/Dark Cloud,
My Giants just won. Tonight is your night. should be a great game. I just hope they let them play and not throw a lot of laundry. Don't want the game to be decided by the refs. Good luck to both of you.
Be Well Dan

Do you guys have derby matches over there, a derby match in England is between two teams who are based close to each other, I know the USA in a larger place but do the likes of New York have a rivalry with say Boston or Philadelphia?
In Football (Soccer) the main derby’s are Liverpool and Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City, and these games are very intense, it’s the same when England play either Ireland, Scotland or Wales, these matches (in any sport) are fought with honour at stake, the rivalry then goes into Europe, when we play our friends the French or the Germans the stakes are usually raised, it even spreads as far as Australia were any sport between us and the Aussies is keenly fought.
Does this sporting rivalry exists in the USA?

It's not so much the teams are close (they are) but there's a rivalry that can be frightening at times. Yankees (New York) vs Red Sox (Boston).. Ravens (Baltimore) vs Steelers (Pittsburg); the latter becomes a real bloodbath at times, the teams really dislike each other and with the physicality (is that really a word?) of American football you can imagine what it's like with emotion injected into the mess. I love it... Scott

Well Scott it must be the same the whole world over then, but it does add to the game when it’s played with a bit of spice, and as Mac would know, when England play Australia at Rugby, you expect “a bit of a blue’’.

Ian. Rugby! Love it. The director of the Sports Medicine Center back home was a grizzled 62 year old surgeon, broken nose, crewcut, voice like a boxful of gravel. He still played rugby! My personal favorite, though, is Lacrosse...can't get enough. Cheers! Scott

You have great taste Scott, not like some. My Avatar is my club mascot, the RLFL stands for Rugby League Football Club.

In the lacrosse world Hopkins is considered a 'big dog' - many national championships for the Bluejays and we consider the season a failure if we even miss the semi-finals! I'm assuming rugby is still played on real dirt and grass?

Well Scott we are the only Rugby League Football team to play on a synthetic pitch, it’s called the I Pitch, but the rest of the rugby league world are still playing on turf which is not really a problem anymore because we have changed our season from winter to summer so that we don’t have to play in mud, snow and heavy rain, which I suppose makes no difference because it usually pisses down during our summer anyway.
