I was talking to Hunkpapa (Gordon Richards) the other day and he still says that he will belief it when he actually holds a copy in his hand, he also posted me a link for a review of the new book and not surprizing it went down well; linkIan.

Here's a paragraph from the review:
Readers of American history and military history are therefore in Tori Harper’s debt, and in the debt of her collaborators Gordon Richard (whose chapter in this book, “Death of the Valiant,” is absolutely superb), Gordon Clinton Harper, and Monte Akers. Thanks to this team, we get the gift of this book. Congrats and many thanks to Hunk for seeing it through to publication!

I opened the storm door this afternoon and promptly tripped over a box from Amazon containing Gordie's book! I'm ecstatic! Billy

My copy arrived yesterday. Only a few moments flipping it so far, more on the weekend. First impression; a lovely piece of publishing, a quality book indeed! A large debt is owed those who made this possible for so many enthusiasts. Thank you so much.

So, what's the verdict?

My verdict is deferred. I have been side-tracked by Ivan Doig and by Call Sign Revlon, the biography of Kara Hultgreen, the young naval aviator and first female F-14 squadron pilot. Hultgreen, many will recall, was killed in a failed landing aboard USS Abraham Lincoln. The book is quite well done. Written by her mother, some view it as a whitewash but I found it convincingly critical of her daughter at times, enough to leave a surprising sense of even-handedness.

All: I've not posted here since Gordie passed away, but am proud to have been part of the team, with Hunk and Tori, that made his book a reality. I've heard there are a couple of posts or inquiries asking about the e-book of appendices--the approx. 2000 pages of primary sources and Gordie's bibliography--and how to obtain a copy. Casemate Publishing is planning to release them soon, as well as an e-book of Gordie's ms. The challenge in getting the book published, in addition to completion of the manuscript and organization of the appendices (to which we are indebted to Hunk), was finding a way to get the entirety of the work published, and the combination of hard copy and e-book was the solution. Check the casemate site--http://www.casematepublishing.com/--periodically and you should see both e-books in a month or less.
BTW, Tori Harper and I will be at the battlefield on June 26-27. We had planned to set up a table in front of the Trading Post and sell copies of the book but the first print run ran out quicker than anyone expected, and the second printing will not be available until July, so we will have no books to sell. We would welcome the chance to meet anyone who knew and loved Gordie, so if you plan to be there on either of those days feel free to e-mail me at monteakers@yahoo.com (i.e to my cell phone) and we'll figure out a way to cross paths.--Monte Akers

Many thanks to MANY people actually, along with Hunk, who is probably tired of me saying thank you! Monte; Without the support and guidance of Monte this never would have made it to the team at Casemate; who took a huge risk on an unknown author; my dad Gordon Harper. Whom I wish could be here to debate more and spend hours touring and signing the manuscript he spent all of my life writing. Also many thanks to this Custer community for being who you all are, and keeping this journey going. I have enjoyed meeting those of you I have, and look forward to meeting more of you next year!
