I titled this thread in DC's honor, but it should include as well Montrose and Quincannon... and maybe even for gatewood, as well.
I discovered a book quite by accident, then checked Amazon in the off-chance it would still be in print or available and there it was.
It is an autobiography and while I just started reading it I know it will be spectacular. It was written by a man I think we would all dream of being... I know I would... and one I think Montrose comes closest to being....
Of a recent but far-bygone era, an era I caught the last vague glimpses of... written by a man who did it all:
The Wind of Morning by Colonel Sir Hugh Boustead, KBE, CMG, DSO, MC.
In the forward, the Right Honorable The Lord Luce, GCVO, DL, wrote, "... an astonishing story of enterprise, adventure, and service. From his early years in the Navy, deserting to the Army and becoming a Colonel, fighting and wounded in the Somme and in Russia, participating in the pentathlon, joining an early Everest expedition, helping to return Emperor Haile Selassie to Ethiopia, service in the Sudan, the Eastern Aden Protectorate, the Oman and Abu Dhabi...."
And if memory serves me correctly, a member of the Zazura Club.
Best wishes, Fred.

Oh yeah, exactly. My friends would all recognize that as me or someone trying to be me, called as I am The God Who Walks Among Us. Could be my description in the college yearboo............ What in the WORLD made you dedicate that to me? Scares me just to read your description of it. In fact, it reads like a satire of the Dos Equis beer commercial, The World's Most Interesting Man with a mother with a tattoo that says "Son." Or Flashman. So, aside from my fears of freezing, frying, heights, depths, guns, camel spit, camels, tobacco, badly seasoned food, and a life without women, and this atop tendencies to seasickness, airsickness, and self preservation it's me to a T. Could be me, really. And, speaking of me: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U18VkI0uDxE
