If Fred pretended that was the case, he also would be wrong. Well, I cannot pretend that was the case, because I have no data to support it... other than what I posted, which is worthless. As I think back to what I have read-- and by the way, I managed to open that once-"corrupted" file, so everybody watch out!-- the "hell" comment rings a bell, but I cannot remember Benteen ever saying anything about specifically defending Weir. Wild... I know your relationship with DC... and you know our relationship... the things I've said, the things we've discussed privately; issues, feelings, moving on... all that sort of stuff. People enter your life at times... and it is strange how it happens. Without being too melodramatic, it is sort of akin to lying wounded on a battlefield, knowing all hope is lost, feeling sorry for yourself... and suddenly someone shows up to offer solace and hope. Wives are like that when we are lucky... and I am truly. In the last ten years I have undergone a quadruple bypass; prostate cancer; and now spinal surgery, yet I find myself remarkably blessed. My wife has always been there for me... but suddenly, out of the blue, strangers show up. Dark Cloud is one of them.... For no reason, no cause, no debt... just because he is who he is. He has been encouraging, informative, witty, kind, and generous with his own personal feelings and information. Quite frankly, I do not deserve his decency, yet because he is who he is, I received it. I can only hope I can do the same for him or for someone else. It will make me a far better person. All I ask is that you remember that as you battle on. You and I will always be at loggerheads over this LBH nonsense. It doesn't mean we need to be foolish enemies. Keep that spot open in your heart... you are too good a man not to. Best wishes, Fred.

Is there anyone here among us regulars on this board who does not know who the real adversary is. He is still among us, spending more time here trying to determine what has been said about him than he is where he should be tending to that other place. He attempts to poach members, and we have evidence of that, saved evidence. He sees what we post and attempts to cut us off at the pass with his tripe and period regurgitation. Even now one of our own is taking that bunch to task over inaccurate, and demeaning remarks, and being rewarded for his efforts by acolytes of the god of nonsense.
The best way to fight this guy is to limit ourselves to legimate discussion, vigorous debate that leads to truth seeking not one upsmanship, and personal recriminations. Everyone has a point, and this board should be open to all views and then collective consensus. That is the way he will be beaten. We attract on average twice or more than he. Look at the number of guests on the respective sites. That is not by accident. We smack him evey day, to the point where one can only conclude that what we have to offer is better. So let us resolve to make better best. Let this be the place of one stop shopping, not only in matters about LBH but other things of interest to us.
Out new friend Gatewood is a good example of this. Dan asked a question on the Pacific War yesterday. DC and I responded. Gatewood came on this morning with a post that has inspired me to go down to my joke of a basement library and find an answer. That is what this board means to me, something that motivates me to search for more meaningful answers and not just the surface testimony of a Carter or a Miles regurgitated ad nausium.
Now cut the crap and lets get down to the real business that brings us all here.
And yes I agree with Fred. DC did me a kindness that he could have just as easily ignored. That does not mean I suddenly agree with him. That does not mean that I will not argue points with him. What it means is he did a decent thing that will not be forgotten, and that will temper the heat of my remarks in future, and not the substance

Absolutely nothing - The Wallace the II thread was started by Ian in as a response, and more appropriately a stick in the eye, to this board being forced to take down a complaint against the Wallace thread, that was found to be offensive by a rather thin skinned, with good cause, person who did not like it.
Thereafter it is more like a thread that was meant to discuss panzer divisions that has migrated to gardening and basket weaving.

Ah i got it. So this is a rebel thread and the title is inspired by Wiliam Wallace history.

Just as much of a rebel as Robert E. Lee. Wallace, George D. 1LT, him most noted for carrying a pocket watch

DC To the particulars, Benteen did not propose defending Weir Point or the area around it. yantaylor is wrong, and there is nothing to support it. You are wrong for pretending he is correct. It's that simple This is incorrect. I posted nothing to give that impression. Please can we have the quotes to show that I had an opinion on the issue?

A simple question: What have all this to do with Wallace? Ulan, Probably nothing; but it is the way these threads go. We all get too lazy to start a new one and someone will pick up a thought and change the subject completely. Also... be careful with the on-line version of the RCOI-- the Reno Court of Inquiry. I do not think the page numbers are the same as the book most of us have or refer to. I have two copies: one is a soft-cover that falls apart very easily; the second is a hard-cover edition that is the exact same as the soft, but stays in one piece. Both were published by the CBHMA and complied by Ron Nichols. If you want any more information about it, just send me a personal message, up above. Best wishes, Fred.

Forming the skirmish line. Is the William Morris sketch map posted somewhere on this site? I think it shows the reason for the companies' G-A-M to M-A-G reversal quite well.

Jody,
The map is also included in Mike Donohue's book, Drawing Battle Lines. Remember, however, Morris was part of the contingent that went into the timber to clear it, then he joined the rest of his company. Also, I believe-- but am not sure, because my books are packed away currently-- Morris drew that map many years later... maybe in the 1920's, so memory is no longer the best.
Good point, however. Also, before I put all that stuff together about pivoting, I worked with Morris' map in trying to figure it all out.
Best wishes, Fred.

Hi Ulan, I can give you a good link for a copy of the RCOI, it’s the one that I use and matches the ones that the other guys also use.
This thread has nothing to do with any Wallace, may it be Edger Wallace, that other Scottish Wallace ‘’you know the guy who was rated a hero in his own country and was handed over to the English by his own countrymen’’ (I think some Australian Drunk played him in a film too) or Barnes Wallace, you can add Wallis Simpson too if you like.
Ian.

Do you meant Edgar Wallace, the that funny crime roman writer?
I meant this scotttralian Mel William Wallace guy rebel who was slashed by some legal representative brit christian on a place of execution.
