Fred, a couple basic things to start. Open a new file in Mac Word with a few words typed in and save it. Keep it open. Copy the corrupted file with a new name such as corrupt so you don't jack with the original. Take the copy and rename it with a different extension such as (.txt) then try to open it in wordpad or note pad. If it opens, then copy and paste all your data into your new Mac Word file. If .txt doesn't work, try (.rtf). When you are in wordpad and try to open or save a file, you get a list of extensions that it reads and saves to. Try them all till if opens up.
