I received Fred's book a few minutes ago.
I will need a few minutes to review it and trash it, following hussar tradition.

Will,
I haven't seen it yet; how does it look?
If you can, give me a call tomorrow... or I will call you if it is OK. My wife is leaving for a wedding in Newport and I will be baching it for a couple of days.
Best wishes, Fred.

Thank you, Diane. It is a bit smaller than I thought... with all the work I did I expected about 5,000 pages... it turns out to be 240, a little under the mark. I am really pleased with the format, though I discovered one spelling error and an omission that extends throughout the Indian section of the book; but not a big deal. I doubt anyone will pick it up.
The most glaring error... to me, and I am sure it will be to you as well... was the reference to Ephriam Dickson as my "late friend." I think that was my error, however. When it was just about to go to the printer I asked them to put "late" in the following acknowledgment to Mike Nunnally. I probably duped it. That will warrant a red-faced apology letter to poor Ephriam.
Anyway, the publisher did a really nice job and I am pleased. Too bad Little, Brown didn't give as much attention to Jim Donovan's work as McFarland & Co. gave to mine.
Best wishes, Fred.

First, it is a very attractive book. Cover is wonderful. Binding is well done, so it won't be falling apart in a few years like so much of my collection.
For the record, the first entry I went to was Goldin.
Working my way through. Amazing body of work.

Yippeee! Mine just arrived.
Thank you SO much for the kind words, Fred. I am humbled to the point of being speechless (first time in history).
I can tell this will be my new "Bible" for LBH. I'm especially excited by the Indian section. I know what I'll be doing in the hours/days/weeks ahead -- updating the mini-bios on my websites!

Is it hardcover or paperback? McFarland has it as hardcover, while Amazon has it as paperback...

Is it hardcover or paperback? McFarland has it as hardcover, while Amazon has it as paperback... I got mine yesterday. It is hard cover and I am just aware of one printing so they must be all in hard cover pursuant to McFarland's policies. Just to be safe, order it from McFarland. $80 includes the pony express 4th class shipping from North Carolina. It is well written and an easy read. I have even learned a few things. Haven't seen any typos. Just saw a couple glaring editorial issues that I'll pm Fred about when I get a chance. That doesn't include the one about the late Ephriam Dickson who is still kicking which Fred has already acknowledged. bc

Got mine! As BC said, it's an easy read and I love the size. It's small enough to hold and read, no need for a coffee table.

Just to be safe, order it from McFarland. $80 includes the pony express 4th class shipping from North Carolina. That's a good idea... and it comes very quickly. As far as I know, it is only in hardcopy, though it is available in an eBook edition, as well. There are a couple... three, as far as I have found. I assume it is the printer, not the publisher, but I do not know. I would be interested, Britt, in what you found "glaring." I think I know... this: ∆, is missing and should be in about eight or so places. Other than two typos I have found nothing in the actual text. I cut the publisher some slack, however, because I think this was not an easy book to publish. It is loaded with numbers, symbols, dates, inserted references, difficult charts, and a zillion parenthetical notations. I have found very few books of this nature with no errors... so I don't know what else to say. I have pointed them all out to McFarland, but haven't heard. Overall, I am very pleased with it. I like its size and appearance, and I am particularly delighted with the layout. It is very easy to navigate. Best wishes, Fred.
