If Ian would care to contact me via my website I would happily explain to him in a 'quiet way' what this is really all about. I would be real careful, were I you, in just how much you wish to reveal in "a 'quiet way.'" Remember, I have all the original e-mails and if you want them posted all over these two sites, just let me know. Those include the ones from my wife and you would not come off looking too good or too smart. As far as I am concerned, you are not a lot better than what "Quincannon" has put up here, regardless of your protestations otherwise. I am sure your new Website is marvelous... no doubt; no hyperbole; no cynicism in that remark. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this stuff to visit and participate if they are able. I have not seen it yet, nor do I intend to at this point, not for any personal animosity between us, but because I am sure it is loaded with good information that would lure me away from other projects I am working on... too many in fact, for the temptation. So I applaud your work. You should also be aware I have never denigrated that work, though I have certainly done so in your presentation and your supreme smugness in its infallibility. While it is nice to know you have shared your invective-- such as it is-- among Hammer, Nichols, and Williams, it hardly compares with your pillorying of my own work, a work far more extensive than anything the other three have done, and a work dealing with a lot more than the mere pedantry of birth dates. Funny, too... as much as I try, I have not been able to see that extended hand offered through our intermediary. Well... none of this prevents me from wishing you the best and a Merry and healthy Christmas, Fred.

Kentishman, I am not a covert type of guy and to be honest Fred has layed his cards on the table so there is no need for any ‘’quite talks’’.

Capt Fred,
Did you get my PM in reply to yours concerning Col Montrose. Me and these damn computers, I think I might have sent it to myself.
Be Well. All the best to you and your family for the holidays and the New Year
Dan

My first visit back in a while and I run into this!?? Why has this resurfaced for God's sake? Peter and I had a spirited yet very civil discourse on Facebook about the issues involved some time ago and we both realized that there was error on both sides; Peter admitted, and I'm paraphrasing here, that his tone was a bit much and I had a major data error pointed out to me regarding Sgt. Major Sharrow, i.e., Sharrow was on his third enlistment, not second as the enlistment registers indicate. With Peter's information, the first enlistment does show Sharrow being born in England and not at sea as the two previously known enlistment register entries showed.
My suggestion is that all who have written inflammatory comments delete them and carry on.
I dare say that I am the only one on this board who has communicated frequently with the principals and thus am in a position to state that both men are fine gentlemen and passionate historians.
Any questions, feel to PM me.
Billy Markland
Oh, Merry Christmas too!

Fred,
I never cease to get good use from your Participants book. your start with Two Feathers/ Cheyenne was a starting point. Maybe at some point Steve and I can find you one or two more Cheyenne. Maybe not.
This book is a good resource/reference, anyone who doesn't have it and wants to study this battle and the Centennial Campaign is missing out.
I had forgotten how far back this thread went.
Regards, Tom

Thank you, Tom. I hope you have the 2nd edition, however. There is a lot more information in it and it includes maps. More than 5,000 Indian names have been added.
Best wishes, Fred.

For those of you interested, I am working on two new books and a possible article for the LBHA's Research Review.
The books are a day-by-day accounti in what I term a "bullet-narrative" format. That can be described as a narrative, but with bullet points for times and others items. I did this type of thing on a couple Facebook sites back in 2016-2017 and it drew enormous interest and a number of requests for publication. So we will see.
The second book is about Reno and the valley fighting, including his retreat, something I did not cover in my book The Strategy of Defeat at the Little Big Horn. This genesis for this book was a push by a number of people on this site, including montrose, Steve Andrews, Tom Tubman, and a few others.
While still down the pike a while, both are coming along even better than I expected. I expect them to be jammed full with photos and hopefully some decent maps.
Best wishes, Fred.

You are as far from a "fringe clown" as anyone can get. You may know the reference elsewhere, but we will not raise that dog again. Best wishes, Fred.
