My name is Uzerman from Alpha Centauri. Bow and Scrape, peasants!
If, for some reason, you hesitate to believe me, I'd suggest that you not believe at face value or claim that a Username and his descriptive nation of origin have anything to do with reality. Might be true, but as likely not.
Wild varies between using "us" for his inclusion in tales of British arms success or glory and varies it with "them" when discussing alleged Irish heroism against the Brits. He has it both ways, you see.
People lie in their attempts to garner anything from mere attention to adulation. For the former, see Joe Wiggs, a uneducated bore by each and every other name he uses, including - currently - Reddirt here, where he poses as a female, and his many others on several boards, including his own.
For the latter, see conz, who enjoys his tongue lapping by strange on the other board which he doesn't actually deserve. This symbiotic relationship now allows strange to start feeling like a he-man and back talk to others dissing conz. The courage of distance and pretense. Their bed, they get to lie in it.
My Commander calls! Up, up, and AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY....................

I am disappointed though not entirely surprised with the reaction to my posting regarding Fred's new book, which I still maintain was both measured and fair. I had hoped it would develop into a mature and focused discussion about the book, not the author, which surely is the only issue here. Alas, this has proved not be the case. I most certainly have no intention of demeaning myself by supping in a "trough of vitriol,' induilging in character assassination, publishing personal correspondence, nor engaging in a game of 'message board ping pong' but will post a serious and appropriate response early next week when the highly-charged dust has had time to settle. In the meantime may I humbly suggest to those who have access to a copy of 'Participants' that they actually (re)read it, including Fred, and see how many of the 100+ 'errors' they can spot - they're not all in invisible ink! Well, at least, not in my complimentary copy. So now what is the point of bringing up some typos which Fred has already said slipped through the printing process? I can find typos in any book and even your post above isn't beyond misspelling. It appears to me you are trying to deflect from your first post which I quote below: Kentishman wrote: "I have just finished reading 'Participants in the Battle of the Little Big Horn' from cover to cover, which I freely admit is somewhat unusual for a book of this nature. It gives me no pleasure to say I was most disappointed to find that in virtually every aspect it falls well short of the standards one would normally expect of a volume of this price and subject matter. A great pity and a golden opportunity missed." In your first post you say it falls well short of the standards one would normally expect of a volume of this price and subject matter yet you do not state what these "normal standards" you claim that it fell short of. You failed to mention what your "normal standards" are, what your "expectations" are, and how your standards and expectations are normal in relation to the rest of the reading public. You state it fails "virtually every aspect" but no listing of or quantification of those "aspects" and any of your reasoning as to how it fails said "aspects". It met all of my normal standards notwithstanding some typos which can normally find in a book. If you want to nitpick, grab a calculator and read Doran. Then you claim your "normal standards" have a price range as if they don't meet the price paid for it. However in your first post you neglected to tell anyone of us that you didn't pay a dime for your complimentary copy. Rather deceptive if you as me. Price doesn't enter into the quality of the content of a book. You also claim this book falls short of your "normal standards" you would expect for the subject matter. I'm not aware any any book that has similar subject matter particularly regarding the NAs listed therein. You have therefore created a false standard in which to berate this book. Then you go on to claim a great pity without explaining what that great pity is based upon and furher claim it is a golden opportunity missed without explaining what the golden opportunity was that was missed. I personally don't see anything to pity this book about nor do I see any golden opportunities missed. The posts by Kentishman are nothing but a baseless slur and not unexpected of a few occasional trolls that visit to trifle but not add anything of value to a discussion. He does nothing to offer guidance regarding a decision to buy or not buy except for his baseless slam make with suspect motive. Anyone of Darkcloud's weekly editorials is much better reading than Kentishman's alleged book review. A few minutes at the proboard support forum will inform everyone that the IP addresses are seen by the administrator. A simple google of the IP address will disclose the location of any trolls. The administrator also has the option of checking a box which discloses a poster's IP address with each post. Then we can do some detective work. bc

Well, at least, not in my complimentary copy. To continue on: You claim your first post was "measured and fair" yet you posted absolutely nothing for anyone to see what measures you looked at to say it was "measured". Nor did you post any criteria as to how you can claim your post was "fair". It is idiotic for you to claim that your first post would develop into a "mature and focused discussion about the book." Yet there is nothing your first post that was mature nor was there anything focused as you did not focus on anything to discuss. I can't do anything about the vitriol as you brought that on yourself Kentishman with your first post. In light of your first two posts, I don't see that you can every come back, even next week, with anything that is fair, measured, and focused regarding the Participants book as that would require a 180 degree turnabout. bc

Uzername, that has got to be one of the more creative posts since Michael abandoned us for a life of debauchery with chiquitas and tequila in Mexico (or maybe he just wears a sombrero and plays mariachi in his suburban backyard while drinking tequila.) Anyway, welcome. Billy

Kent, I am not as specific as BC was in his latest two posts but I still iterate the same principles....quit talking generalities and go to specifics or shut the hell up. Your vacuous wanderings around the subject of your displeasure casts shame upon the the Custer Association of Great Britain if you are truly a member as you told Fred.) Billy

The Harold Society of North Boulder will hold its annual Stirrup and Mace Award Ceremony for the three top entries in the annual Harold Society of North Boulder Essay Contest.
This well regarded academic society will feature papers on Bishop Odo's choice of Mace grip, Harold's recently discovered plea for help in Klingon, and a lecture on the importance of daylight in combat by a direct descendent of Harold's shieldbearer's wife's wikkan cousin by marriage.
My photo, of myself surrounded by books and weapons, will inspire all to attend.

uzernam: Why don't you invite the Hussar to the Harold Society Ceremony. He problably needs a lift after Dan told him it was Saint Clair's Feast Day. In fact he was absolutely giddy about it until I told Old Brain in the Seat of His Pants that Clair was a girl. Dan you are shameless.
PS: Maybe that was Old Head Quarters in the Saddle, or was it Hind Quarters in the Saddle, or was it Hind Quarters Where His Head Quarters Should Be. I keep getting all those things mixed up

Puh-leeze.
We have standards, you know.
We're now discussing whether the angle of the sun on Harold's shield wall reflected back into Norman armor and hence into Saxon eyes, therefore blinding the Saxons and dooming them. This is so obvious that it puzzles why this is not credited for the important victory. Science proves this could have happened if the angle of the shields met certain criteria and the sun set in the north east that day.
Otherwise, they must have been drunk, although there is this amusing theory that having run on foot back and forth to the north of England to fight another battle within the week and win it might conceptually have tired them out, plus they didn't have mounted units and hence no Hussars, plus they were badly dressed, plus those damned stirrups on the Norman mounts.

Well I suppose your high standards is the reason my invitation has not yet arrived. Don't feel to embarrassed I did not get one for the Royal Wedding either
Now I have read about the sun on the shields effecting the flight of the arrows after they left the bow and all and the fact that Harold was all infantry means that he did not have the added burden of training those pesky horses to dodge those arrows, but that is not the real question. Did Harold defend the timber? That is the question. That is the only question, because if he left the timber before everyone thought he should in either a drunken stupor or something that could be taken a thousand years later as cowardness the world wants to know.
I do have it from a reliable source that Captain Carter was hanging out at the Sutlers emporium at the back part of the castle and he got it from one of Harold's, well here is where the story gets a little hinkey, it was either the sword sharpener or the stable boy's mistress, that old Harry was loaded to the gills on Kool Aid.

Jeeze, you folks don't know any history whatsoever do you? First, Harold never made it to the battle as he dawdled with some ladies of easy virtue in Devonshire; thus, the command devolved upon Sir Marcus. Secondly, the propaganda about reflections upon the shields was to hide the truth, i.e., the reflection was from the extremely large flask of liquor that Sir Marcus was continuously drinking. Third, Harold was a closet-Hussar who, after leaving Devonshire, led his command against the enemy in Scotland.
And as they say, the rest is history.

I am shocked. Shocked I say. Harold dawdling with whom. Say it ain't so Billy. Say it ain't so.
Nay, this cannot be. It was a clear case of sun sheild shinning. Captain Carter said it was all the fault of Baron Fredrick the Foul Mouth.
I am so confused
