Guys, Are there any quality indian wars living history groups? Guys that don't just do dog and pony shows? Not that there isn't a time and place for everything.

Patience! We don't all sit at our computers 24/7 waiting for a question.
I guess the answer depends on what you think is a dog and pony show. Most of the people I've met who perform in Indian Wars reenactments do so because they truly love history and that is their way of exploring it. I would bet you have offended the reenactors, so don't hold your breath for an answer.

Just caught this. Unfortunately, there's not a lot going on with "pure" Indian Wars living history these days (or at least in my part of the country). Most of what you find are Civil War reenactor groups who do the occassional Indian Wars impression as a sideline. However, one of the best groups out there, at least when I was more active some years ago, is the General Miles Marching and Chowder Society at www.nouveauwest.com/GMMACS.htmThey primarily do an infantry impression but I haven't been involved with them for awhile.

Hello, I am new to this forum. But it caught my attention. I am a living history interpreter/reenactor. It is difficult to find family oriented events in my area - Utah. But I thought I would share about an event I attend. It is an action packed, educational, fun - okay a wonderful, family oriented - event every year, in July called ATE -Anpetu Tatanka Etay. It is a private - not open to the public for viewing/total immersion event - Indian War reenactment. We have our indian camp, a buffalo hunter's camp and the cavalry camp. We are always looking for new participants with the same passion for history a we have. And we especially need warriors. This is very much a family event and encourage all age groups to attend. We have had newborns to 90 year olds. I would love to share more if you are interested.

Is this the one run by Mike Terry? Some years ago the Indian Wars infantry unit I belonged to inquired about attending but the organizers didn't seem to be too interested in our attendance so we dropped the idea.

It is. Give me a call 801-458-6488. There have been some changes. The event is run by a council from all three bodies - buffalo hunters, cavalry and indian camp. I can put you in touch with the commander of the cavalry unit - we are looking for warriors and their families for our camp as well.

Thanks- I'll see if there's any interest. It's been awhile since we've done anything Indian Wars-related (lack of interest combined with lack of events/uniform and equipment sources pretty much did us in).
Hopefully, things might have changed- the last time, they pretty much said we could be a camp guard. Sorry, not travelling accross the country just to sit in a camp. :-)

No designated camp guards in our group and we do anything BUT sit around camp. Too much to do - too many to interact with - buffalo hunters, cavalry and civilians.

I guess most of what has been posted here answers my questions. I was hoping for least one or two others in my area interested in the REAL history of IW. I'm a purist and want nothing to do with Hollywood. I am hoping to get some interest here in the midwest in that real history. One of the main reasons I came here is you guys follow the REAL history and do it right. So I'm watching, reading and learning.
