I received a request from a history student who lives in the Czech Republic. He will be writing a thesis about Custer and the Little Bighorn and would appreciate a list of a few new (within the past ten years) books about the battle by American authors. There have been some excellent books published in the 2000s about specific topics and people, but this request requires a more general approach. My suggestions: For the story of the battle, including great narratives of its prelude and aftermath: A Terrible Glory: Custer and the Little Bighorn by James Donovan (2008) For an indispensable reference book: Men With Custer: Biographies of the 7th Cavalry edited by Ronald H. Nichols (Revised Edition, 2000) OK, OK -- Stop throwing tomatoes! I know I took the easy ones. ;D Keep in mind he will have to get them on international library loan or buy them, so he needs them to be readily available and (guessing that students everywhere are on a budget) inexpensive. Suggestions?
