I live near the town of Lanesboro, MN, which features its "Buffalo Bill Days" celebration each August. Last year this author presented me with this story, selling it. As we rarely buy pieces not done by staff or our own freelancers (we haven't during my seven years at the paper) and not for what he would have wanted (not a huge amount, but beyond what we regularly pay), he took it to the competition. Whatever the case, I present it here for your perusal. (Editor's note: I would note he gets into the early days stuff way late in the story, with nary a subhead to steer you there. I would have edited that into the story lead and beginning... and gotten into the nuts-and-bolts history later on. I do that with our writers' stuff... and even catch it in my own on occasion and edit away.) It is interesting and looks like the author did a bunch of good research. I credit him on that. So please check it out. fillmorecountyjournal.com/main.asp?Search=1&ArticleID=20742&SectionID=16&SubSectionID=109&S=1

You must be referring to the original Buffalo Bill, Buffalo Bill Mathewson. Born in NY, moved to Minnesota, became a fur trapper for the Northwestern Fur Company of Omaha in 1849. The rest of his exploits are history.
Sorry, went back and looked at your link. Guess you mean the second Buffalo Bill aka Cody.
