Dear friends,
Today we proudly present to you a new website and a new message board:
www.American-Tribes.com
“Huh, what is this?” some of you may ask. Why do we need this new site and board?
Let us explain a bit.
There are several reasons why Diane Merkel and I are trying to create a new website exclusively about American Indian history. As you know, the LittleBighorn.info site (and the former LBHA.org site) is focused on the LBH battle. However, over the last years, the Northern Plains Indians board has assembled a lot of precious material about the Indian role in the battle and American Indian history in general. Then there was a time last year when at some point there was the fear that the message boards would be closed and all data would get lost.
We were thinking of a way to preserve all the information collected by so many posters who contributed so much biographical data about Indian leaders over the last years, and we think there is a lot of great information that is well worth the task. We also had in mind to make material that is buried in older threads easier to find. So I compiled all information I found worthy (in my humble opinion, but someone had to do it) and copied and pasted it into dozens of Word documents that Diane right now is designing and uploading onto the new website.
This all has taken a lot of time. We began last year but haven't completed uploading all biographies and articles yet. Diane will do this continuously until all bio pages are online.
However, we want to launch the new site and its message board now. It should be an evolution of the Northern Plains Indian board and should allow us to take another step forward. It gives more opportunities, more nations and tribes to talk about, and a design that attracts more visitors and posters. But we would like to get your feedback before it is finished.
We hope most of the regular members of the old board will join us there. Diane and I would be very thankful if you do. If you have any suggestions about what should be added or changed, please let us know. This all is a work in progress and your opinion is very much appreciated. It is not our new website but yours!!
If you click through the pages we have online, you will probably notice that we also plan to have a page with short biographies of all contributors who want to be mentioned. We would be glad to have your name and a short biographical text on that page. If you like, you could send us additional information and also your portrait (only if you wish). But, in any case, we need your consent to your name being used. If you don't want your name on the contributors page or beneath the information on the bio pages, we will change your name to "Anonymous". The posts are already in the public domain, so we thought it would be all right to use them for our purpose.
It would be nice to start new threads on the new message board. All information from the old threads on LittleBighorn.info will be transferred into bio pages at the new website. We're still undecided about closing the old board now or later, so let us know what you think.
If this new project is to be a success, we need your help and assistance. Thank you in advance.
More information about the new site will be posted soon on the new message board: amertribes.proboards77.com/
Welcome to American-Tribes.com!!
Best wishes to all of you,
Diane Merkel & Dietmar Schulte-Möhring
