Luckily, my wife is a professor of Spanish with a specialty in Spanish detective fiction (as in, detective fiction from the country of Spain). . . . That sounds very cool. I don't believe I've heard of any Spanish detective-heros. Are there any characters we might know?

Kicking the "bad" Indian scene is in Tonka (in fact, I believe his name is White Bull) White Bull was the good guy--Sal Mineo. The bad guy was his uncle, Yellow Bull.

Diane,
My wife says no, there really are no Spanish detective heroes that most Americans would know. The reason being, a lot of the best Spanish detective fiction was written during the Franco regime, when Spain was pretty much a closed society. But in more recent Spanish detective fiction, there is a character named Petra Delicado who is pretty famous, if only because she's a FEMALE detective hero, something that would have been unheard of under Franco.

Depends on how technical you want to get -- and those of you married to or acquainted with academians or serious researchers know that even simple discussions like this can get mighty technical! Cisco Kid is a Mexican character created by an American. But he is definitely a character people have heard of, from a Spanish-speaking country.
