Off-topic: Congratulations, Elisabeth! I don't know how or why I missed that you met another milestone earlier this month. Thanks for all you have contributed to the boards! Diane It's my day to be board sour-puss (DC is off today). Many congratulations to Elisabeth! Now as far as being off-topic, I thought the topic was rumors, not movies? Grumpily, Billy

It's simply amazing how we get off track, ain't it? But just to add to the Quinn-fest: Brando's buddy in Viva Zapata [where he actually plays a Mexican], another Greek in Guns of Navarrone, and one of my favorites - Tom Morgan, The Black Rattlesnake of something or other, in Warlock, opposite Henry Fonda.
"I'm faster than you, Clay, I've always been faster than you. Now you hit it, and you better hit it fast!" I used to challenge my son, whose name is Clay, with this line from the movie. He never could beat me, although I have to admit, I haven't challenged him to "draw" in the last ten years, and since I no longer practise, he'd likely beat me.
Horse: Did you know that he was once married to CB DeMille's daughter?

There was a rumor floating around for a while that Tom Custer had an illegitimate son who lived in Ohio or Michigan. There were even pictures of the boy on the internet at one time from a book written about Tom. I have to say he did resemble Tom. I wish I could locate that website again.

There was an excellent article about Tom's son in the Summer 2005 Research Review. In fact, its author won LBHA's award for best article of the year. "Tontogany's Deep Secret: The Unknown Son of Thomas Ward Custer" by Mark A. Miner
Mark Miner examines documents, photographs, newspaper articles, and more in examining the only recently discovered evidence regarding Tom Custer's son. "Tommy" Custer, his mother, and those related to her are also examined. It presents an interesting insight into nineteenth century handling of illegitimate children.

Actual myths, speaking of Tom ...
A personal feud with Wild Bill whilst at Fort Hayes. I don't know where that started. But wasn't he--according to legend--supposedly arrested by Hickok after a bar brawl? Hmmm...
Perhaps he was protecting Libbie from her own desires ...? Which leads to the most delicious Tom rumour of all--did he harbor a stronger attachment to Libbie than what was normally expected of a brother-in-law?
And Hostler, we're past Tom's illegitimate son, we're now kind of exploring whether Boston might have left one behind in the Carolinas! Diane--have you heard anything more about it?
Fun thread, all. LMC

Chuck and I discussed it briefly last weekend with the man who originally told me the story. Nothing new to report. I have a feeling the story is the result of someone's poor (or fabricated) genealogy research.
