And you have no evidence. We are all just speculating at this point until someone finds the doctor's report that mentions a bullet in the poor man's brain. You're taking your conspiracy thinking just a mite too far. Weir was an alcoholic and if the disease reaches its final stage, death is the result. Period. Do we have any medical report ? Does anyone see the medical report ? All what I've heard about was the Army and Navy Journal article about the matter. What did Weir's family think ?

West: How on earth could you say I insulted Weir? You are saying it's OK for CSS to state Weir probably committed suicide because Custer had been betrayed. Then say I insulted him for committing suicide for another reason. Suicide is suicide regardless of the reason. It's the coward's way out. I have found little testimony from anyone regarding Weir's action once on Reno Hill. Tell me what you know about Weir once he got back to Reno Hill. Crzhrs-- IF Weir committed suicide--which I am not convinced of--he is a bigger coward than Reno ever could hope to be. Suicide, for whatever reason, is simply abhorrent and the most selfish act anyone can perpetrate ... and often ruinious to the people left behind. I can sympathise with Weir's mental state, but I cannot condone or heroize any man who willingly takes his own life. But getting back to your point, it would be nice to see if there are any references to Weir's behaviour at Reno Hill. Surely there are some biographical articles running around about the fellow. Regards, Leyton McLean Captain Thomas Weir is the only man who had a little honor in the whole LBH affair. You don't have the right to insult him in any manner. The coward was the drunk incompetent officer who didn't do anything and the jealous and full of bile old bastard who didn't do their duty. These two traitors are now honored in Arlington cemetery and, the worse infamy yet, in LBH cemetery. It's a shame. Don't EVER insult Captain Weir again. Don't even try to. Because honoring barbarous kamikazes on LBH battlefield is one thing I can probably accept because it's fashionable. But insulting Captain Weir is crossing the line. Maybe you could never understand what it is to see his comrades being under fire when no support is ahead. It's normal: in fact, your own ancestors taught their own children to be killed for the Great Spirit in great suicidal attacks. ( Hero of the Little Bighorn)

However, I know of one person who wrote his dissertation for his PhD about Weir's life. That person is very close to our moderator -- her husband, Chuck. Someday, it will be published and we'll all be able to learn more about Weir thanks to Chuck.

Thank you Miss Merkel for joining the board only to make comments on CSS and I. I dont' want to elaborate but I want to remind you the official US House Select Committee on Assassinations (1978) concluded JFK's murder was a conspiracy, but it was not able to say who prepared it. So to laugh at us about "conspiracy" and all that stuff make me think you never heard about this... And about your signature... I wil be pleased if you took more time to join the LBH discussion than to find signatures to make jokes about me. Best regards, West CSS, your dear friend West brought this up a long time ago. If you will go to Page 18 of this board, you will see a thread he started called "Weir's Death" which explains everything in detail. If you love conspiracy theories so much, please find a JFK forum since you apparently believe that nonsense, too. Do you like the quote I added beneath my signature? I put that there just for you and West. Diane

CSS:
How did I insult Weir? You said he could have committed suicide, so did I? What's the difference?
Prove Reno was drunk. You have used Godfrey many times to support your opinions of Reno.
Answer this question:
Godfrey said Reno acted cowardly but was not drunk.
I believe Godfrey told the truth: Reno was cowardly but not drunk.
Are you man enough to believe Godfrey when he said Reno was not drunk?

Saying that Weir who lost most of this friends in a single battle without having been able to help them is a coward if he had committed suicide is an insult.
Remind also that according to Michno Weir witnessed maybe more than minutes of the end of the battle. Edgerly said he saw men running down the river and he thought it was Indians chasing by Custer's men.
Gosh, crzhrs, if you had seen you entire military best friends (we could say family) being massacred in front of you, you would become mad.

West:
Where did I say Weir was a coward?
Yes, I would be mad if I lost friends/family . . . but I would not committ suicide.

Suicide is the coward's way out. If one cannot deal with tramatic experiences then kill themselves over it they have a problem.
I never said Weir was not upset over the loss of friends at the LBH, but losing friends cannot justify suicide, whether it was at the LBH or any other event in one's life.

I never thought suicide is the way out for cowards. Could you be a little more merciful ? What did Thomas Rosser say : "As a soldier I would rather be dead with Custer on his hill than alive on the hill of the survivors after having neglected my duty" Weir certainly felt that way. On december 1876, it was his Last Stand with the ghosts of the LBH. Weir is really my hero I confess. Great man.

Killing oneself over a personal tragedy is different than going down fighting. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
The so-called Suicide Boys were willing to die fighting . . . that was different than committing suicide because of a personal lose.

Okay, the possibility exists that Weir could have committed suicide. It's not beyond question. We will just never know. We don't have enough to go on, and probably never will. When Chief Joseph died, the doctor said it was due to a broken heart. Is such a thing even possible? If so, Weir was probably very depressed and died of related causes, possibly suicide. What's the big deal. And I don't think it makes him a coward.

I find more understandable a poor guy that committ suicide after having lost all his close friends than a happy guy that promise to kill himself in a battle. The first is human depress. The second fanaticism.

West, you and CSS, very often close your messages with a "parting shot." And you should recognize a fanatic when you see one, as you clearly see one daily when looking in the mirror.
