Saw this on DVD the other night. It's awful. Attempting to tell real history by focussing on a handful of individuals never works. You come away from this thinking the massacre was Dawes' fault. Events are merged together often with no consideration of time; the attempt to be even handed in the portrayal of SB is laughable; there's no mention of the struggle by the military and Miles to agencies under army control; the massacre is a shoestring version; the costumes of SB's people before they arrive at Standing Rock resemble something out of a post-apocalyptic movie; the dialogue is stilted; it has little to with Dee Brown's book.. and so on. Okay, it's not Bonanza, thank God, but people get paid for this?

I agree. The movie was a disappointment. I thought McLaughlans' humiliating treatment of Sitting Bull was a bit far-fetched. I doubt SB would let anyone talk to him that way.
