Yeah, historically-related bickering is fine, as long as it's polite bickering!

It's like a disease. Everybody's prickley. The ONLY time I've ever had words with you Fred, was over something David said. And I'm not proud of it. This place will always be ours; the place we investigate the serious stuff. If that's what we want, and I do, we've got to work to keep it that way.
Maybe we should just try to keep the two boards separate. I post 'over there' sometimes when I feel I have to speak up. For instance Strange is strange, but at least he's trying to learn. And besides everyone here is smarter than me. Over there they're so challenged I have something to offer. ;D
I'm going to try from now on to post any complaints I have about the LBHA or David on THEIR board and let THEM deal with the disease and strife.
Although I'm keeping an open mind to see if I hear about "Fred's Experiment" being mulled over as we speak.

I feel the same way--it's the only place I can offer any sort of expertise, except for stuff like what Myles Keogh had for breakfast on April 6, 1863...and that sort of thing does have limited interest! And I've developed a certain fondness for strange--he's never rude or nasty, just weird. When he gets too weird, I just walk away and wait for him to come up with some different peculiar question. Like I said, maybe we can just live and let live.

Although I've monitored this site for years, I didn't join in 'til last month, so I don't have a dog in this fight. It does make me wonder why the loyal members of this forum are wasting any of our valuable time on childish, petulant behavior. Personal outrage is only an empowerment. It's been my experience over too many years to note that persons with small feelings about themselves do not deal well with having persons simply realize the value of them as an opponent. Perhaps honest, mirthful humor is something which represents an empty bag to hit. After all, who feels particularly threatened, either personally or as a historian?

I don't have a problem with people being on the two boards, although I think it may rankle the ire of some. The problem I might see with it, however, is a diminution of time spent on the "mother board." You guys-- and others, as well-- keep touting your lack of knowledge, but that is where you are wrong. You do not have to be on every thread, in every category. You all bring a certain expertise to this board and you all know a lot of stuff I have no idea about. And I'm sure I'm not alone. Plus, so many of the questions asked elicit tremendous responses and contribute just as much to the discussion as any data Billy or "rch," or I might put up. That's what is so important here.
Look... let's put the goddam cards on the table here and quit the girl thingy-footing around, okay?! I count Bill Rini as a friend. At the same time I consider David Cornut a simplistic little twerp, really not worthy of a moment of my time, yet they're buddy-buddy. And that's why I had one dose of his so-called Website and never went back. Yet when David or his brother were known over here as "west," then "custerwest," and maybe even another name, I defended him/them. When Diane wanted to boot his butt, I stuck up for them. She warned me that I better watch out what I ask for, but I don't regret doing what I did. As it turned out, Diane was right and I was wrong.
Now she's got a bee in her bonnet about me. Nobody wants to hear it? Nobody wants to say it? Fine! But ladies and gentlemen, the elephant's in the room and you can ignore it all you wish, but it's there and it's not going away until everyone gets honest and does something about it. Go take a look at the exchange between Diane and me on that other thread, the stupid one about the "Chairman's message" that went on and on and on, ad nauseum. I think it was right around that time my name suddenly disappeared as "moderator" of those three sections; no warning, no e-mail, no, "it's run its course, Freddy-ol'-boy," nothing. That's called "miff." Shortly thereafter, I walked away from both sites. As much as I want to rationalize my own dumb-ass action, that is also called "miff."
The bottom line here is no one wants to resolve this goddam problem except a few diehards like the posters on this thread who happen to give a s**t. [The deleter seems to have a few key words honed in on!] And that includes the other side as well. Nobody is willing to compromise, nobody is willing to discuss it in an honest way to resolve the problems. And the problems are a lot deeper than David Cornut. Instead, we put up asinine little "signatures" at the end of our "avatars," or whatever those friggin', pompous things are called, which I'm just sure ingratiate ourselves to everyone and then wonder why we have all these issues. And so, you know what we have? We have a lousy "Newsletter," we have two boards, loaded with idiots, a passel-full of name-calling, and a bunch of cry-babies and quitters.
Because that's all they really are: quitters. Quitters! And when I realized what I had done, when I realized that I really wasn't following Gordon Harper who left for legitimate reasons, when I realized just what an ass I was-- to myself-- I said, I have never walked away from anything in my life and I'm not starting now.
So that's what it all comes down to: stalemate. Nobody's going to budge because everyone has his or her own personal little agenda. Everyone is bent out of shape; everyone has been subjected to the name-calling; everyone's feelings have been hurt; we all have this aura of self-importance. We all take things wa-a-a-y too seriously. Like I said, Rini is my friend, but I have no reason to go over to his site. None. If you guys want to read the crap that clown "strange" puts up, so be it. To me, it's like reading a term-paper written by the 11th-grade class clown about what he did last summer. Spare me! I'm done with children; I have run out of things I need to learn from them.
The key-hole is staring me in the face and I am not going to look through it any more. You two ladies-- along with "alfuso," Kathlene, and Ruth-- have the right approach and to me you have shown the intelligence needed to carry on (have you noticed the theme here?). It is people like you who keep people like me here. And I shouldn't leave out Larry.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred, et al
I have been involved in media fan wars that wret international. Physical threats were made. People were "excommunicated" from Clubs and forums for taking sides.
My friends and myself met it with humor. Cartoons and silly "broadsides"
They lost
We're still standing.
Always works

I agree, Linda. Totally. That and ignoring it. That will calm the situation down here and hopefully, let us go our way. The rest is between the protagonists and the antagonists. The problem is, it has been dragged here and that's what I would like to see go away. That and the recriminations.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred-- I know I would like you should I meet you at LBH or anywhere else, but kindly note that in your latest contribution to the LBHA Membership thread, you laid into the Swiss fellow something pretty fierce. If you're going to accuse others of bringing the problems he has wrought upon all of Custeriana--because that is what it is--to this fine board, do not to forget to include yourself on that list. I have left the other board and am sick to death of all of this breast beating and kumbayas by everyone and their mother! --t.

Trish--
I looked; I don't see it. Are you referring to my comment that he is a "side-show"? If you are, I see nothing "pretty fierce" about that. Maybe you'd prefer me to say, The David-issue is a side-show. OK... done.
David is what anyone thinks he is. Right now, his mere mention is wasting my time and yours and there isn't anybody worth that. I don't need to say any more about him than I have already, and I do not need to embellish upon what I consider the truth. There is no one on this board or any other who has been as self-deprecating as I have been and I have washed my hands of the mud.
As I said earlier, I have already earmarked 10 of my posts I am willing to take down if and when I believe it will help. Have you? I can give you the threads, pages, and post numbers if you would like. Has anyone else, besides Melani?
Best wishes, Fred.

As I said .... I am sick to death of the breast beating and the kumbayas. I'm not deleting anything. Get back to talking history, work on bringing the "normal" Custerbuff back into the arms of the LBHA, and stand for what this subject should be--fun.

Oh, Fred, If we have to go back and delete all the posts we regret, (mine are disgusting drivel compared to yours!) then I will virtually DISAPPEAR! I say leave the posts where they lie. Make a mind-set to go from here and sluff off all the garbage (gee whiz, they're only words!). Why are you beating yourself up so, YOU are not the problem! There are too many thin-skinned people here ! There's been an injustice, but the persons on the receiving end are STILL STANDING! And so is this website. Who cares if the "clone" makes it or not? My bet is, they won't, but it won't change anything here, either way! (I may be the only person left, cause I'll be damned if I'm going to bolt!) My very best wishes, Kathlene
