The green exit signs along Interstate 90 let travelers know they’re approaching Crow Agency. But what is Baaxuwuaashe?
The tribal word for this community on the Crow Indian Reservation now appears on signs near here as part of an effort by the Crow to take their stories to the road. Baaxuwuaashe, translated, means flour mill, according to Crow speakers, and refers to a government-built facility that used to be here. I saw the new sign when we zoomed through in April and didn't know what it meant. Thanks for the info. Now I can impress my daughter....maybe not. Ruth
