They do: tinyurl.com/y2ddz5The principal criterion is that you have to be a writer with at least one published work currently for sale on Amazon. Hmmm.

All--
Interesting discussion and over the next day or so, when I have a little more time, I'll chime in. Spouse has been ill--though not seriously--for the past four weeks, so I've been carting him from hospital to doctor and back again. I can truly empathize with caregivers.
Briefly: Self-published non-fiction has risen, reputation-wise, in the eyes of Those Who Are In The Know. Often, the subject will fit a very specialised niche (such as Custeriana), where the number of books won't be enough for a full NYC publisher's run or time. The caveat is, as it must be, you still have to be a good writer and have something new to tell us, or it doesn't matter how pretty the artwork on your cover is .... Looks like a few of the guys around here have started a Custer/LBH critique group, which is the best (free) tool to improve the nascent manuscript.
On this board, I've noticed a fifty-fifty breakdown between them what self-publish the traditional way versus POD. I have friends who have found "success" in both manners; sometimes even federal and state grants are avaliable to the erstwhile and dedicated self-publisher, depending upon the subject.
Happy New Year, LMC

Nice to see you, Leyton! Your absence is always noticed. I hope your husband recovers fully soon.

You'll be fine. We'll get his work published one way or another. I'm seeing one of the publishers I mentioned to you Friday night and will lay the groundwork.
