Don't worry, Gordie--you're probably not in it! It's safe to look. It's just a review; you have to go to some trouble to buy it.

The problem is I might be - depending upon the period covered; but I did my time [2 days , if I recall correctly - I was not the baddest of badmen], so I'm not considered an outlaw. Seriously, if the review is any good, I'm liable to chase after the book. I have The Honor Of Arms, and I AM interested in desperadoes and lawmen of the late 1800s - early 1900s, particularly in that area of the Southwest [never mind, Steve - I don't need to know about any Arizona-themed books].
So far I have only deviated from my "Book List And Budget" a teeny little bit, and have made up for it by some fortuitous deals on ones that WERE on the list. There are only FIVE remaining.

Gordie MC Gordie, if you like reading about outlaws of the Southwest (AZ, NM, west Texas) you might like for Bob Alexander's DESERT DESPERADOES: The Banditti of Southwestern New Mexico. Extremely good book! Billy P.S. Or you may want to consider his Six-Guns and Single-Jacks dealing with the town and region of Silver City, NM. Silver City is where Billy the Kid was first arrested as a teenager.

Gordie MC Gordie You have caused me to deviate a lot from my budget. Your latest recommendation is 180 plus dollars. Your not the one selling it are you? Steve

Billy:
I should have included you in my stricture. Leave me alone.
Steve:
Ye Gods!! That must be the Willert book - probably a signed first edition. That's okay if you are a collector, I suppose, since the value will likely go up; but I would sure as heck not spend that much on a book, unless it was extremely rare, and then only if it had commensurate source value. I don't sell books, unless I'm moving and can't be bothered packing and unpacking etc. Then I usually give them away, or leave them at bus stops or on park benches. Seriously.
My Custer/LBH collection, such as it is, leans heavily toward inexpensive paperback reprints [the info is generally the same] and then I don't feel bad about highlighting or making marginal notations. Sometimes you can find what you are looking for a bargain price, when somebody is cleaning out the attic, or just doesn't bother researching to find out how much that old book is really worth.
Willert never comes cheap - I think I paid 135 bucks for my copy, which is the second edition, not favored by collectors, but updated by the author. It happens to be signed, but that had nothing to do with my buying it. I would hold out for a cheaper opportunity - but it is a book that you should have, if you are serious about your study of the fights.
Books are funny things, or at least the prices for them are. Some of the books I have I paid what I considered outrageous prices for, because I needed them, and they were in small publishing runs [that is the case with many LBH-related books]. Most, if not all of them, would now be considered bargains. As an example I paid 30 bucks for a certain book a few years back, and the last time I saw one offered for sale, the bidding STARTED at 100 bucks.
On the other hand, I've just bought a copy of Mystic Warriors Of The Plains for twenty and one of Visions Of The People for FIVE dollars [it is not pristine, but it is all there]. To save 75 bucks I can live with bent corners, and a not mint cover.
I just bought three more books this weekend. My want/need list is now down to four books and one magazine back issue, which I figure will set me back roughly 265 bucks, including shipping, and I have budgeted that over the next five months - one a month. My problem is I have little in the way of willpower.
I hope you have better luck with THAT than I have had.

Having to come up with something even a quarter as witty as you is trying. As far as Fred goes, just think X's Billy
