For those who don't have it, Heitman's Register of Army officers is available on-line at: www.soldierquest.org/heitmans.htmYou can save the individual PDF files (they are public domain) to your hard drive by opening the individual links & clicking the Adobe "Save As" icon, then renaming the file to something understandable in a folder you can find. Best of wishes, Billy P.S. That loud thump heard on Monday night was the wheels falling off the Chief's bandwagon.

Something peculiar seems to have happened to this link, alas. It still takes you through to the alphabetical index in the usual way -- but now, when you click on the section of your choice, it diverts to the U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center, web address www.carlisle.army.mil/ahec/. What's going on? Anybody know? Should have followed your advice, Billy, and downloaded and saved the lot in the first place!

What's going on? Anybody know? Should have followed your advice, Billy, and downloaded and saved the lot in the first place! The Army Military History Institute was the location of the files the entire time, it was simply easier to use the Soldiers Quest index rather than trying to hunt down the location. It now seems that they have pulled the alphabetized sections and replaced it with one file containing everything. And it is a huge file, 70 megs. Here is how to get it though. 1) Go to MHI index page: www.ahco.army.mil/site/index.jsp2) In the Search box near the bottom of the page, input Heitman 3) Click on "Search Digitalized Resources" 4) Select the correct search result (it should be No. 3) & click on the document name. 5) Wait 6) Wait some more 7) Curse idiotic web-site designers and short-sighted research staff 8) When if comes up, at the top left corner of the toolbar will be a diskette icon. Click that to save the file to your machine.

Thanks, Billy! (I'll start with Step 7 first, I think ...!)

Thanks, Billy! (I'll start with Step 7 first, I think ...!) That would be my suggestion also. I find that while it rarely helps in directly fixing the problem, it does wonderfully relieve the frustration. Oh yeah, let's add code developers to the list! Be good, Billy
