The whole thing is one big morass, or maybe three or four. We're all stuck in one or the other of them.

If anyone is going to order 'Glory' I suggest you order it off the 'Friends' website...I think they get a donation for each one sold and I believe have it at a good price as well.

Sorry, Scout! I wasn't aware of that.
Best wishes, Fred.

I almost ordered it twice once in October and once today. I am staying away from this thread till I get the book.

I bid on an ARC on Ebay a month or so ago; but I gave up when it hit 20 bucks, and have decided not to buy any more theory books at all, only primary source material - which has cut my want list considerably [to eight books and 1 magazine], and strangely enough, considering my lack of willpower, that decision has been relatively easy to stick to, and has helped the budget considerably.

... have decided not to buy any more theory books at all, only primary source material... I think that's probably a very smart decision. I am starting to wind down my "theory" purchases, as well. Maybe you can steer me in the direction of "source" stuff; I have some, but I'm sure nowhere near enough. Best wishes, Fred.

Fred:
I'll try to answer in a PM, probably tomorrow or the next day. Maybe not until after Super Tuesday. I'm spending an inordinate amount of time following your primaries. God knows why. Researching sources and getting to them is a difficult subject, and deserves a response too lengthy to take up space here, and I probably will come up short anyway. But I'll try.

Amazon is now shipping Donovan's book. My pre-ordered copy arrived today: I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

I haven't read the book either, and I actually don't think you need to read most Custer books to review them, because they fall into shape by template and the known idiocies and psychoses of an author.
That said, though, this reads like a review of the publicity blurb written by an intern (who hadn't actually read the book) furnished by the publicist. Do not treat bloggers and anyone who won't use their real name as if they were the New York Times book review. This is a good metaphor about how so many treat highly dubious tales and individuals as witness.
I, of course, can write the review now, and so can most of you, because there's no new evidence, we all know. Plus, the forced usage of cue words like 'glory' begins to wear on adults. Discovery of a letter written, say, a quarter century after the fact by the daughter of a tangent participant sets Custerphiles' hearts a thumpin', but it ain't really evidence.

<snip> Terry outranked Crook, Bourke tells us. He'd know. Right. Terry was appointed brigadier general, U.S. Army on January 15, 1865. Crook was a captain at that time, date of rank May 15, 1861; promoted to major on July 18, 1866, lieutenant colonel on July 28, 1866 and brigadier general October 29, 1873. Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and moderator of the Custer's last Stand group at Yahoo. I was amember of the LBHA back in the 90s, but haven't re-upped lately, due mostly to financial reasons. Perhaps this forum will get me worked up enough to jine up.
Regarding the Donovan book: I just got ahold of a copy from the Borders Books where I work. It looks pretty level-headed so far, but I'm only up to page 12. I skimmed through it before picking it up. Didn't see much new, but really nothing off the mark. Anybody else read it yet?

Hi, Ron. I didn't know there was a Yahoo group about LBH. We'll have to check it out. What is the address? I haven't read the book yet either, but here's a link to an interview with Jim by American Heritage: tinyurl.com/393u2g
